A 13-year-old Saskatoon boy has been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. The Saskatoon Police Service reports that around 4 Monday afternoon, officers responded to The Centre Mall about bear spray being discharged in the food court. Police were told several youths fled in various directions.
Investigation determined two groups of youth believed to be known to each other were walking when a boy from one group discharged bear spray towards another boy from the other group. The suspect was identified through investigation and he was arrested in the 400 block of Kingsmere Boulevard a short time later.
Then, around 11:30 Monday night, Saskatoon Police responded to an injured person call at an establishment in the 900 block of 22nd Street West near Avenue I. Officers discovered a woman suffering from the effects of bear spray. She told police that an unknown woman had approached the victim and asked for a cigarette and when the victim declined, she was bear sprayed.
The suspect fled the area and wasn’t located but the matter is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
