Prime Minister Mark Carney has named Nova Scotia MP Kody Blois to be the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Economic Development in his cabinet.
Blois replaces Lawrence MacAulay from Prince Edward Island, who will not be running in the next federal election which could be called in a matter of days or weeks.
Blois previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and served on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture. He was first elected in 2019.
He was one of the few Liberal MP’s that supported Bill C-234, a private members bill the proposed to exempt grain drying and barn heating from the carbon tax.
One of Carney’s first acts in office on Friday was signing an order-in-council that will end the carbon tax on April 1st.
