Saskatoon Police say they responded to six bear spray incidents over the weekend.
The first event occurred on Friday at 7:30 outside of Midtown Plaza. A man was bear sprayed, and several Community Safety Officers arrested two 19- and 21-year-old men.
The next evening, just before 7:00 p.m., police responded to an apartment building in the 100 Block of Avenue V North. Officers learned that a man had asked a group of people to leave the building, one man discharged a can of bear spray indoors before running away. He was not found by police.
Later that day, at 8:30 p.m., police were called to the 300 Block of Avenue P South for the report of an injured woman. Upon arrival, officers found that the victim had been bear sprayed in the face by an unknown man while she was walking down the street.
Even later, at around 10:00 p.m., police were called to the report of a man being bear sprayed at the corner of 22nd Street West and Fairlight Drive. The suspect was not located.
On Sunday, at around 2:30 a.m., a man in the 900 Block of 22nd Street West reported being bear sprayed by another man. Police say he didn’t want medical assistance or to cooperate with an investigation, but officers were able to locate the suspect in the 200 Block of Avenue J South. The man had outstanding warrants with the Prince Albert Police Service and was arrested.
And finally, around 3:20 p.m. that day, police were called back to Midtown Plaza for the report of a Loss Prevention Officer who was sprayed with bear spray by a 12-year-old boy. He fled the scene before police arrived, but later that day he was seen outside the mall again. Police arrested him and found a can of bear spray on his person. He faces several charges.
