Around 4:30 Friday afternoon, Saskatoon Police responded to an establishment in the 900 block of 22nd Street West for an assault in progress and found a woman making threatening advances towards another woman with what appeared to be a homemade conducted energy weapon. The woman followed police commands and was taken into custody.
Police say a homemade CEW was seized. The 37-year-old Saskatoon woman is facing charges that include assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon for the purpose of an offence and unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon.
Just before 8 Saturday night, Saskatoon Police were called to a grocery store in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West about a robbery. Officers learned a Loss Prevention Officer noticed a man stealing and when confronted, the man kicked the LPO and attempted to take off, dropping a knife from his pocket in the process. Additional LPOs rushed to the area to assist in detaining the suspect until police arrived. The charges for a 36-year-old man include theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon and failing to comply with court-imposed conditions.
A man was struck in the face with a can of bear spray and slashed with a machete Saturday night in Saskatoon. Police were called to the 1200 block of Junor Avenue in the Westview neighbourhood about an altercation, just after 8 Saturday evening and found an injured man. The suspect fled before police arrived. Officers were told the two men were not strangers to each other. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries. Police continue to investigate.
A 15-year-old boy is facing numerous charges in connection to a Saskatoon Police investigation into an assault with a weapon Saturday night. Officers responded to the 300 block of Confederation Drive after being alerted of an assault in progress involving several youths. When police arrived, the victim was located and several other youth were nearby. Police learned that a 17-year-old boy had been hit with a belt. A person matching the suspect’s description was located and arrested a short time later. Police report finding a large knife and imitation firearm when he was searched. Some of the teen’s charges are possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of a weapon while prohibited, assault and committing an indictable offence while masked.
Around 9:30 Sunday night, Saskatoon Police responded to the 100 block of Avenue S South where it was reported there had been an armed robbery. Officer were told a food delivery driver had been waiting outside an apartment building to make a delivery when he was approached by two men who produced a knife and robbed him of the delivery and then took off. The suspects weren’t found, but police continue to investigate.
