A Saskatchewan tourism company has been recognized with an international award this year.
Pemiska Tourism, at the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation north of Saskatoon, was given the Indigenous Destination Development Award at the International Indigenous Tourism Conference in Montreal.
Kevin Seesequasis is the Founder of Pemiska Tourism, Pemiska meaning ‘Come and Find it’ in Cree.
“People want and need to get outdoors. People want and need to learn more about what’s in their backyards, and we’re inviting people to come and it. Come and find that history. Come and find that adventure. Come and find cultures and people that you may not necessarily have had a lot of experience with.”
The company offers immersive cultural experiences, glamping lodges, backcountry camping, ATVs, and canoes to name a few things.
“Our community is full of beautiful and vibrant history and amazing and hospitable people, and we recognize that those are some key ingredients for Indigenous tourism.”
He encourages the public to ‘Pemiska’ or ‘come and find it’ in Cree. For more information, head to Pemiska.ca, or their Facebook and Instagram pages.
