In response to the tariffs from the U.S. going ahead, Premier Scott Moe says, “President Trump is just simply wrong when he says Canada has nothing the USA needs and Americans are about to find out he is wrong.” In a social media statement, Moe highlighted that American farmers need Canadian fuel and fertilizer, but Donald Trump’s tariffs will drive up the cost of oil, potash and uranium that will drive up the cost of groceries for every American family. He calls this a completely self-inflicted and unnecessary action by the American government.
He doesn’t directly say he doesn’t believe in retaliatory tariffs, but does say, “It should not result in the same kind of self-inflicted harm that Trump is imposing on his citizens.” (see below) The provincial government will be considering Saskatchewan’s response tomorrow (Wed) when Cabinet will meet to consider the options.
