It’s my Parting Shot for my reactions to the headlines in today’s Star-Phoenix Sports Section…..
First headline…Stars like all-star proposal. My reaction…firstly, there are five articles to read in today’s section, four of them dealing with the N-B-A! What is up with that?!! Otherwise, the N-B-A has floated the idea of a United States versus the World format for its mid-season break after what was done this past weekend in San Francisco. That was a T-N-T television love-in, which is fine by me that the league recognizes the hard work of its media partners, but the four teams and long breaks weren’t great – according to a lot of the players!
Next headline…Time for stretch run toward the N-B-A playoffs, Final push on for teams that made trades with goal of success in the post-season. Reaction…Let’s see, the Toronto Raptors sit five games out of 10th place in the Eastern Conference – the final play-in spot. They made some odd trades before the deadline and acquired a very good player in Brandon Ingram, but he’s hurt – as are most of the Raps at some point and time this season – meaning the trade is likely going to help Canada’s lone N-B-A entry next season, not this season! At least that’s got to be the hope!!
Last headline…Pivetta finalizes 55 million dollar contract with Padres. My reaction…Nick Pivetta is a pretty good right-handed pitcher who hails from Victoria. As in B-C, as in Canada! I wonder if the Toronto Blue Jays kicked the tires, at the very least, on acquiring him?! Probably not, considering the botched negotiations to re-sign Vladimir Guerrero Junior and attempts, that were more fantasy than anything to lure Juan Soto, Roki Sasaki, Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, etcetera, to Toronto! Once again, how many failures must the Blue Jays endure when it comes to signing players before Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins are sent packing?!!
That’s my Parting Shot. I’m Les Lazaruk in Lethbridge, Alberta…and it turned out nice again!
