Swift Current’s only lead Saturday came when Saskatoon product Connor Gabriel scored in the 10th round of a shootout to give the Broncos a 6-5 victory over the Blades.

Combined with Prince Albert doubling up Calgary 4-2 and Brandon bouncing Moose Jaw 6-2, the W-H-L’s East Division standings have the Raiders in first place with 63 points followed by the Bridge City Bunch and Wheat Kings with 62 and Swift Current fourth with 58 points. The Blue and Gold got off to a strong start, jumping out to leads of 2-0 and 3-1 before the Broncos rallied to tie the score at 3-3. The Blades kept pressing the issue with 4-3 and 5-4 advantages, only to have Speedy Creek respond – eventually forcing overtime. Hunter Laing, Tanner Scott, Hayden Harsanyi, Grayden Siepmann and David Lewandowski tallied for 28-17-7 Saskatoon. Lewandowski added an assist for a two-point outing while Rowan Calvert had three assists and Ben Saunderson chipped in a pair of helpers. Carlin Dezainde paced 28-22-2 Swift Current with a hat-trick while linemates Luke Mistelbacher had a goal and two assists and Rylan Gould chipped in a pair of helpers. The shootout was scoreless through seven rounds before Laing gave the Bridge City Bunch another lead, only to have Hunter Mayo respond with a goal for the Broncos, setting the stage for Gabriel’s heroics. Speedy Creek out-shot the Blue and Gold 29-26 through three periods and the overtime. The East Division pennant chase resumes Monday with Swift Current at home to Calgary, P-A in Moose Jaw and the Blades at home to Brandon. Game time is 4 o’clock at SaskTel Centre.
