Thirteen of Saskatoon’s business organizations have joined forces in their mission to make Saskatoon the most business-friendly city in Canada.

The coalition is called Combined Business Group, and it includes Discover Saskatoon, the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Saskatoon, the North Saskatoon Business Association, and several others.

Steph Clovechok, CEO of Discover Saskatoon, says being the ‘business-friendliest’ city in the country would mean “Saskatoon would be recognized nationally for its ease of doing business, competitive tax environment and strategic infrastructure investments.”

She says it also means Saskatoon will foster supportive policies, collaborative leadership and strong economic outlook.

“It means businesses, employees and customers will feel safe and supported in Saskatoon,” she added at today’s Governance and Priorities Committee meeting.

In order to achieve this status, the city is urged to sign a ‘business-ready’ pledge and begin work on implementing six different initiatives: reducing the cost of doing business, building transformational infrastructure, enhancing safety and security, treating the business community as a partner, streamlining the business environment, and elevating Saskatoon’s reputation.

The recommendation will be passed on to City Council in the coming days.
