Without government regulation, parents are the strongest line of defence to protect children online. That’s the message from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection on Safer Internet Day.
The Centre’s website lists online harms for parents to be aware of including exposure to sexually explicit material, sextortion, online luring and AI-generated media and deep fakes, while providing information for parents on how to talk to youth about these threats and monitoring your teen’s online activities. The Centre also points to the cybertip website which it operates, for up-to-date notifications informing the public of new concerning technology trends and new resources to increase children’s personal safety.
