Average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon have gone up by 6.0 c/L in the past week and GasBuddy.com says prices on Sunday were averaging 157.34 c/L. GasBuddy undertakes a daily survey of 81 gas outlets in Saskatoon. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.5 c/L in the last week to 154.92 c/L.
Including the change in gas prices in Saskatoon during the past week, prices yesterday were 18.7 c/L higher than the same day one year ago and are 6.1 c/L higher than a month ago.
The head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says most provinces have seen gas prices inching up but Patrick De Haan describes the increases as relatively modest in light of recent volatility in oil markets.
While the tariff threat is on a temporary hiatus for oil and gas, there have been refinery issues that are causing localized disruptions. He gives the example of prices on the west coast after a refinery fire in the U.S. and transition to summer gasoline which have pushed prices higher. But De Haan says elsewhere gas prices are following typical seasonal patterns and notes that potential policy changes could affect fuel costs in the months ahead.
