There were four bear spray incidents reported since Thursday with the first coming in shortly after 5 p.m. that two teens were seen fighting in the 400 block of 33rd Street West with one person having deployed bear spray at the other in front of a store. Neither the victim nor the suspect was located when police arrived.
About an hour later, police were called to the 300 block of Confederation Drive where bear spray had been deployed inside a store at Confederation Mall. The group had taken off when police arrived and no injuries were reported.
Later in the evening, around 8:30 p.m., an officer patrolling downtown was flagged down by a man in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue South. He reported that two unknown individuals entered a business wearing masks and discharged an unknown spray into the air before fleeing on foot. Police say the spray was an irritant, but not believed to be bear spray. No one was injured.
Friday at 4:45 a.m., when patrol officers were dispatched to a weapons call in the 1700 block of 20th Street West, they spotted an agitated man was waving his arms holding a can of bear spray. He was arrested without incident and officers seized the bear spray. The 30-year-old was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon and Breach of Probation.
