The Saskatoon Blades made two roster moves just as the W-H-L trade deadline passed Thursday night.
The Bridge City Bunch released 18-year-old defenceman Cameron Sytsma and dealt 17-year-old right winger Lochlan Tetarenko to Portland for a conditional 10th round pick in the 2026 Prospects Draft. That trade was one of 11 transactions made, league-wide, Thursday before the deadline hit. In all, 41 deals were completed since the moratorium was lifted on December 27 with the Bridge City Bunch involved in six of them. In total, the Blades traded away six players and two draft picks while obtaining five players, two unsigned prospects and 10 draft picks. In addition, upon arrival in Calgary, Saskatoon met up with 19-year-old Slovakian centre Frantisek Dej. The moves leave the Blue and Gold with 22 players…13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders…as East Division-leading Saskatoon takes on the Hitmen Friday night at 8 o’clock. Both teams, along with Medicine Hat, are tied atop the Eastern Conference standings. CJWW’s broadcast begins at 7:45. Following is Les Lazaruk’s conversation with Blades President and General Manager Colin Priestner after the passing of the trade deadline plus the news release from the Blades on the Thursday trade…..
Saskatoon, SK – The Saskatoon Blades have acquired a conditional 2026 tenth-round pick from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for 2007-born winger Lochlan Tetarenko.
“We want to thank Lochlan for his hard work and compete every day at the rink,” said Blades general manager and president, Colin Priestner, “We wish him nothing but the best and are super excited that he gets to play for his dad’s old junior team.”
Tetarenko, a Okotoks, AB native, has five assists and 23 penalty minutes in 25 games during his rookie year with the Blades. Drafted by the Blades in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, Tetarenko follows in the footsteps of his father Joey as a member of the Winterhawks.
The Blades want to thank Lochlan for his contributions to the organization and wish him all the best in Portland.
