By just before 11 this morning (Thurs), Canada’s 100 highest paid CEOs had already made, on average, $62,661, which would take the average Canadian worker all year long to earn.
A report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives says the top 100 highest-paid CEOs pocketed $13.2 million in 2023. That’s 210 times more than the average worker’s wage in the same year. The report says the reason why CEO pay is growing more rapidly than worker pay isn’t their salary, pension or benefits – it’s their bonuses. The cash bonuses in 2023 for the top paid Canadian CEOs averaged at $2.3 million, which is double their average salary.
