Tanner Molendyk and David Lewandowski (pictured) could both be taking part in the upcoming World Junior Championship, representing the Saskatoon Blades in the process.

The 17-year-old Lewandowski was named Friday as one of 26 players on Germany’s preliminary roster. Only one player needs to be released before the tournament starts on Boxing Day in Ottawa. The left winger has seven goals amongst 14 points in 19 games in his rookie W-H-L season. Molendyk was previously named to Canada’s selection camp, starting Tuesday in Ottawa. Saskatoon, SK – Saskatoon Blades rookie forward David Lewandowski has cracked Team Germany’s preliminary roster for the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The 6-foot-2 forward was drafted by the Blades in the second round (120th overall) of the 2024 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft. After beginning this season with Düsseldorf EG in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), Germany’s top pro league, Lewandowski signed with the Blades on October 8. The NHL draft-eligible German is second in rookie scoring on the team with seven goals, seven assists, and 14 points in 19 games. The 17-year-old import is tied for the third on the team for +/- at +13.

Lewandowski captured gold at an international stage with Germany last year at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championship Division 1A (WJC-U18 D1A). The German star put up two goals, five assists, and seven points in the tournament. Lewandowski also represented his country this past summer in Edmonton at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

The first-year Blade is the second member of the club to be invited to a preliminary roster alongside Saskatoon defenceman Tanner Molendyk (Team Canada). Team Germany still needs to cut one player to get down to their 25-man roster.

The 2025 World Junior Hockey Championship takes place between Thursday, Dec. 26 – Sunday, Jan. 5.
