Saskatoon received 8 centimetres of snow overnight, prompting city and contractor snow crews to prioritize clearing high-traffic roads. Crews are focusing on major arterials, including Circle Drive and Idylwyld Drive, as well as busy intersections.
Drivers are being urged to exercise caution, as the snow combined with extremely cold temperatures can reduce the effectiveness of ice treatments like salt and sand, leaving roads potentially slippery.
The city’s snow removal follows a priority system:
Priority 1 includes freeways and major arterials, which are typically cleared within 12 hours.
Priority 2 covers double-lane streets and bus routes, with clearing expected within 36 hours.
Priority 3 focuses on collector streets and school zones, with these areas typically cleared within 72 hours.
The public is advised to watch for blue and yellow flashing lights on snow removal equipment and adjust their driving and walking for the changing conditions.
