An HMCS Unicorn member represented Canada in France last June during Operation Distinction, which is the ongoing Canadian Armed Forces’ support to the Government of Canada’s Military History Commemoration Program, led by Veterans Affairs Canada.
This year, Operation Distinction commemorated the sacrifices made during the Normandy invasion in World War II.
D-Day was June 6th, 1944, when Canadian and Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in northern France, which was considered a pivotal turning point in the war.
Sailor 1st Class, Manjovan Singh Sangha, originally from Lloydminster attended the ceremonies and tours in France last June along with other reservists.
He calls the experience of standing on historic battlefields and witnessing the gratitude of French citizens as “indescribable” and says it’s something that will stay with him forever, both for the history it honoured and the pride it instilled in him.
