A Ward 8 candidate for city council believes there are limited opportunities to engage directly with candidates for those running for council or the school boards, while the mayoral candidates have had a few opportunities. Peggy Schmeiser says in a news release that so far there has only been one event for all council candidates, hosted by Saskatoon’s Combined Business Group, where they could engage with the business community and others. The Saskatoon Public Library and Social Action Council of Saskatoon hosted forums for individual wards and Schmeiser says the Ward 8 forum, which has 8 candidates running, was full to capacity.
Schmeiser realizes you can only reach so many people with door-knocking because people are working and not always at home, so to address that, she is hosting two events for residents so they can talk to her in person about what issues are important to them. The first one is this tomorrow (Sat) morning at 11 at Eron Coffee House on 8th Street and the second one is Tuesday at 5:30 at Humble House Bakery on Boychuk Drive, which is the day before Election Day. Neighbourhood gatherings are also being planned. You can contact Schmeiser through her website by clicking here.
