CUPE 2669 has issued strike notice to the Saskatoon Public Library (SPL). In a news release issued by the union, as per provincial labour regulations, the union can act after 48 hours.
CUPE 2669 has advised SPL there will be a work stoppage on Tuesday, November 12th and that they will return to work the following day. All libraries will be closed November 12 and reopen on Wednesday, Nov 13. All libraries are also closed on Monday for Remembrance Day.
CUPE says ongoing job action could take many forms, and they are not required to inform the Saskatoon Public Library of the specific nature of the job action.
Consequently, there may not be advance notice for patrons if library services are disrupted so they advise those planning to use a library branch in Saskatoon to check the status of services.
CUPE 2669 says updates will be available on their website, social media and telephone. The Saskatoon Public Library also has provided a one stop spot for information in regards to services available in event of a strike.
