A 14-year-old girl from Flying Dust First Nation has died as a result of an ATV collision.

At 4:15am yesterday, an RCMP officer saw two people operating an ATV without wearing helmets in Meadow Lake.

The officer activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop them, but the ATV sped away on Highway #55 towards Flying Dust First Nation.

RCMP say the officer then decided not to pursue them, deactivated their emergency equipment and watched the ATV turn south off the highway where it subsequently struck the ditch.

One rider was unresponsive, so EMS were called to the scene, however they declared the girl dead.

The second occupant reported minor injuries.
