The hunting season for deer and elk will be extended for ten days in five select rural municipalities in a pilot program.
The Big Game Management Extended Hunt will be tested out in the RM’s of Leask, Bjorkdale, Kelvington, Hazel Dell and Livingstone. In these five RM’s, the hunting season will be extended from November 1st to the 10th for mule deer, white tailed deer and elk that have been causing damage to livestock feed and other agricultural products.
Each of the 5 RM’s will also be allocated 50 licenses for antlerless elk on top of what was already available in the provincial big game draw.
The pilot program was developed in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation and the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities.
