As you are listening to me right now, I have to admit I am not really here. I am at Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park where there is a “retirement” breakfast happening that is also a fundraiser for City Hospital Foundation as part of their campaign to obtain a new CT Scanner. This retirement breakfast is for me and I have had many people that I have bumped into in the past few weeks say to me, “I hear you are retiring”, to which I answer, “Well, mostly”. By that I mean I am retiring from my job as General Manager of Saskatoon Media Group and its three radio stations, CJWW, 98Cool FM and 929 the Bull FM. I arrived in Saskatoon from Calgary in 1983 to be the Program Director at CJWW and from 1984-1990 I also was on the air as host of the morning show. I called it the Morning Express. I became General Manager of CJWW in 1990 and we added what is now 929 the BULL FM in 1995. We called it HOT 93 until 2007 when it became the BULL. We sold our two stations to Elmer Hildebrand Communications in 2001 when he obtained a licence for 98.3 FM. I was retained as General Manager of the three stations, and we launched Magic 98.3 FM in May, 2001. Magic’s name was changed to 98Cool in 2013. I will continue to be on the air hosting the Sunday Sockhop on 98Cool, Vic’s Country Classics on CJWW Sunday afternoons, and, of course, Coffeetalk.. I look forward to my continued involvement in radio as I go back to my roots in broadcasting, which was as an on-air personality.
