The provincial government and City of Saskatoon have chosen a potential location for a temporary emergency residential shelter.

The site, at 210 Pacific Avenue, was formerly operated by the Saskatchewan Transportation Company and is now City-owned. Following $250,000 in provincially funded renovations, the space would provide room for 30 beds, several private rooms, office space for staff, showers, bathrooms, and a kitchen.

If approved by City Council, the shelter is expected to be open by this winter. City Council must also approve the duration of the shelter for a temporary operation up to 18 months.

The province will provide operational funding for shelter services, provided by the Mustard Seed, and further details will be presented in a report at City Council’s meeting on Wednesday, September 25.

Neighbourhood Information Sessions will be held on September 16. The province and city continue to look for a longer-term enhanced emergency shelter site.
