In an effort to get kids off the sidelines and registered for the sports they love, KidSport Saskatoon is hosting the third annual pancake breakfast fundraiser tomorrow (fri) morning. Chair of the KidSport Saskatoon Pancake Breakfast Committee, Braxton Lawrence, says last year, KidSport Saskatoon paid for nearly 3000 kids to register for their favourite sports, and the demand keeps increasing. “The unfortunate part is we are seeing that trend, the demand, increase, whether it’s just (because of) the cost-of-living increases. We’re trying to come up with creative ways to satisfy that funding gap, and we think the pancake breakfast is going to be a big part of that. Lawrence says with KidSport, young athletes can register for a wide variety of sports, including wrestling, skiing, hockey and soccer.
He adds that local athletes and community partners will be in attendance, volunteering their time to serve the public their breakfast. “We’ve got some Huskie athletes, some Rattler athletes, I think some Hilltops might come. We’ve got 180 kids from a few different inner-city schools. We’ve got a ton of corporate partners in the area whether it’s accounting, finance…the construction association.” He says so far this year, KidSport has raised nearly $60,000 towards the initiative. Those who aren’t able to make the breakfast can donate at kidsportcanada. ca. The breakfast of pancakes, sausages, juice and coffee is at K W Nasser Plaza, or the courtyard between the towers at River Landing, from 7:00am-10:30am on Friday.
