RECAP FOR TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD
Heading into the long weekend, Huskie Athletics saw Men’s Soccer continue to look for their first win of the season with their home opener on Friday while Football began a new season on Saturday in Manitoba against the Bisons. Friday night at Griffiths Stadium was a tough one for MSOC as they dropped their home opener against Alberta 4-0, but would respond with a 3-0 win for their first on Sunday against MacEwan. Football however found themselves in a hole early in Manitoba that they couldn’t dig themselves out of, dropping their season opener 37-24 against the Bisons on Saturday.

HUSKIES FOOTBALL:
Huskies Football kicked off their season on Saturday against the Manitoba Bisons, opening the 2024 season as the ninth ranked team in Canada West. It was Manitoba unfortunately getting the last laugh as they opened the game with a 22-0 lead on their way to a 37-24 victory. Saskatchewan had some pushback late in the second making it a 22-14 Bisons lead, but that would be the closest they would get.
Huskies Quarterback Anton Amundrud completed 29 of 43 pass attempts for 356 yards, as well as two touchdowns and an interception. Amundrud had the only rushing touchdown of the afternoon with 31 total rushing yards. Daniel Wiebe and Jesse Kuntz each had a receiving touchdown while Wiebe had 11 receptions for 202 yards on the day.
The Huskies march into Regina on Friday for the U-Prairie Challenge at Mosaic Stadium, with kickoff at 7 p.m.

HUSKIES MEN’S SOCCER:
Coming off their opening season weekend in Calgary where they dropped both gam54.es, the Huskies were in search of their first win on the new season. Friday’s home opener wasn’t the night as Alberta shut the door for their first win of the season 4-0. Saskatchewan had their chances, especially early in the first half. A full recap of Friday’s game can be found HERE.
Sunday was much better for the Huskies as they welcomed the MacEwan Griffins. Ethan Cabral opened the scoring with his second of the season just past the 17-minute mark to make it 1-0 Saskatchewan, a lead they would hold all game. Robert Woodroffe-Brown extended the lead early in the second half and Robert Mackay sealed it before the 90-minute mark making it 3-0 Huskies. MacEwan had five shots all game with only two on goal and goalkeeper Jaron Slopinski shutting the door.
Saskatchewan hits the road again this weekend for only one match on Saturday against Lethbridge, set for a 2:15 p.m. start.
