Saskatoon’s Administration is presenting a report to City Council tomorrow that covers the potential benefits of removing minimum parking requirements. That means developers, homeowners, and businesses would decide how much parking to provide on their properties.
The initiative is correlated with the highly controversial Housing Accelerator Fund, which grants Saskatoon roughly $40 million, dependent on the city’s willingness to undertake
transformational measures, one of them being the removal of minimum parking requirements.
The report states that minimum parking requirements will be removed for all uses in all zoning districts. This includes residential, commercial, mixed use and industrial districts.
Parking requirements will remain for accessible parking spots, loading spaces, visitor parking, passenger drop-off spaces, and bicycle parking.
