The work continues for the provincial government to choose an entity which can deliver services and manage the Saskatoon Lighthouse buildings. The Ministry of Social Services issued a Request for Proposals on February 5th and the closing date on the Sask Tenders website was March 19th. A statement issued to the Saskatoon Media Group newsroom says, “The Ministry of Social Services is in the process of finalizing the request for proposal process to secure a proponent to provide property management and supportive housing services at the former Lighthouse property.”
In September of 2022, the provincial government announced it would be cutting funding to Lighthouse Supported Living after governance, administrative and financial issues were revealed. A Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench judge granted interim receivership in February of 2023, with accounting firm MNP taking over management until the province bought the Lighthouse in December of 2023. At the time, Social Services Minister Gene Makowsky said, “Through this investment we are providing safety and stability for Lighthouse tenants.”
The agreement would include a mixture of landlord and supportive services for about 120 people, transitioning them to alternative locations over two years. Post-transition services would provide supportive housing for up to 60 people in a to-be-determined location for three years. Once everyone is out, the government can sell the Lighthouse property,
