For this week at least, in some positions, the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ depth chart is merely a guide, with changes likely throughout Thursday’s marquis C-F-L match-up in Montreal.
In one instance, American KeeSean Johnson is listed as a starting slotback in place of Kian Schaffer-Baker, who was placed on the six-game injured list with a shoulder injury. Canadian Ajou Ajou remains in a back-up receiver role, despite catching four passes for 110 yards last week against Winnipeg. Secondly, Amari Henderson is in for Deontai Williams at cornerback. Williams is a healthy scratch after starting six games at boundary cornerback. Thirdly, Adam Auclair and Justin Herdman-Reed are listed as linebacker starters for ratio, but you can bet that Jameer Thurman and C-J Avery will take the most reps. Anthony Lanier moves back inside along the defensive line and, as mentioned yesterday, Frankie Hickson is in for A-J Ouellette at running back. Ouellette goes on the one-game injured list with a hip issue.
Meanwhile, as expected, Montreal placed starting quarterback Cody Fajardo on the six-game injured list. Last year’s Grey Cup M-V-P, Fajardo did not practice this week after tweaking his hamstring at the end of the first quarter in a 37-18 loss to Toronto on July 11th. Caleb Evans will take Fajardo’s place under centre. The Alouettes won twice with Evans starting last year, including the only meeting between Montreal and Saskatchewan last year – 41-12 on August 11th. Both the Riders and Als are 5-1, leading their respective C-F-L divisions.
