The Saskatoon Berries returned from a 6-3 road trip by going 1-1 Monday at Cairns Field against the Weyburn Beavers.

The Berries broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning of the first game with three runs and continued on to a 5-3 victory in a full nine-inning contest. The first game was the completion of an encounter suspended by rain back on June 21 when Saskatoon was leading 1-0 in the top of the third inning. In the second game, Weyburn snapped a three-game losing streak by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and the Berries could never catch up, losing by a 7-3 final count. The results left Saskatoon with a 23-22 record, still in third place in the W-C-B-L’s East Division and with a Magic Number of five to clinch a playoff spot in their expansion season. Any combination of Berries’ wins or Swift Current losses totalling five between now and the end of the regular-season qualifies Saskatoon for the post-season. The Berries’ next two games are against the 57s – Wednesday in Swift Current and Thursday at Cairns Field.
