It was 10-4 over and out on Tuesday at Cairns Field!

The Saskatoon Berries increased their hold on the fourth and final playoff spot in the W-C-B-L’s East Division by out-scoring the Swift Current 57s 10-4. The victory improved the Berries’ record to 13-15 and moved them six games ahead of Swift Current and the Weyburn Beavers – both 7-21 for the season. A crowd of 1,350 roared their approval as the Berries scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning with two of the seven Saskatoon products on the roster driving in all four runs. Left fielder Nolan Sparks belted a two-run home run while designated hitter Cory Wouters drove in two more runs with a single through a draw-in Swift Current infield. The offence came after a stellar play in the top of the first inning when Berries’ right fielder Carter Beck threw out the 57s lead-off hitter Kai Gray at home plate, trying to score on a single by Jose Ayala. Saskatoon added another six runs off Swift Current starting pitcher Jacob Chandler in the third inning while the 57s scored all of their runs in the top of the fourth frame off Berries’ starter Nick Nolan. That was the end of the scoring in the contest. Saskatoon heads south to Regina tonight for a doubleheader against the Red Sox before returning to Cairns Field for four games the rest of the week – Thursday and Friday against the Medicine Hat Mavericks before Weyburn comes in on Saturday and Sunday.
