The Saskatoon Police Service Aerial Support Unit posted video to social media showing a vehicle come to a stop with a suspect getting out and taking off on foot. in the post officers say Saturday night a ride-share driver was carjacked at knifepoint.
In a news release the Saskatoon Police Service said the call came in at 10:00 p.m. Saturday of a stolen vehicle in progress in the 10 Block of 24th Street East. The call stated a man armed with a knife had stolen a rideshare drivers’ vehicle.
The suspect fled before police arrived, but the RCMP received a report shortly after matching the description of the suspect vehicle speeding near Rosthern.
With a combined effort from the Aerial Support Unit, from Saskatchewan RCMP and the Saskatoon Police Service Canine Unit as well as deploying stop sticks, a suspect was arrested near Duck Lake.
As a result, a 20-year-old man is facing charges relating to possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing a robbery.
