A Saskatoon man was having a hard time believing he had the winning lottery ticket, but he now has the giant cheque to prove it. A Sask Lotteries news release says Austin Guillemin was having trouble sleeping the morning after the June 5th Lotto 6/49 draw, so he checked the ticket he bought on the Lotto Spot app and to his surprise, $1 million flashed on his screen.

He explains that he was up at 4:30 a.m. and saw there was a million-dollar winner in Saskatoon, so he decided to check his ticket. He was pacing around his apartment and kept going back to the app to make sure he had won, and then to confirm, he found an old phone, charged it a bit, and then scanned the ticket barcode with the same result.

Guillemin says, “The first thing I’m going to do is pay off my student loan.” He also hopes to buy some of his parents’ land someday, to keep it in the family.
