Avro is back. It that name sounds familiar to you, it’s the company that built the Avro Arrow supersonic interceptor jet aircraft in the 1950s which helped to establish Canada as a world leader in scientific research and development. Then, the program was cancelled by then Prime Minister John Diefenbaker.
However, event organizer for Avro, Regan Hinchcliffe, says the company has made a comeback and is at the forefront of positioning Canada as a global leader in aerospace once again and into the next era of space exploration. He says, “We are now taking our proprietary ramjet and and hybrid rocket technology to market and commercializing it through Avro Aerospace. Avro is back and we are taking Canada to space.”
You can find out more about Avro on Saturday during a Camp Easter Seal fundraiser and barbecue next to the Regina Airport at the Regina Flying Club hangar. Valdmir Mravcak, CEO of Avro Aerospace, will talk about some of their projects and the Avro Tutor Fighter Jet will be on display. All the proceeds go to Camp Easter Seal and the goal for Avro’s DropZone team is to raise $35,000. The fundraiser is from noon to 3:30 on Saturday. Tickets are available at the gate.
