The provincial government is investing over $889,000 in 12 community airports around the province.
Highways Minister Lori Carr says community and regional airports support air ambulance, policing, firefighting services, the agricultural sector, and position rural and northern communities for growth.
Included in the 12 projects, the airport in Melfort will receive $112,500 for airport taxiway paving, Phase 1 and 2 of Apron II and Taxiway C engineering will commence at Moose Jaw’s airport with an investment of $120,000, and Tisdale Airport’s runway will receive $250,000 to be resurfaced.
Town of Tisdale Mayor Al Jellicoe says the investment will ensure the runway can continue to meet the needs of various aircrafts that provide key services to east-central Saskatchewan, such as air ambulances for health care and aerial applicators for the agricultural industry.
Each project is funded on a 50/50 cost-sharing basis between the recipient and the provincial government to a maximum $275,000.
