Fourteen months after being granted a Western Canadian Baseball League franchise, the Saskatoon Berries will actually have players come together for their first formal practice session Tuesday night at Cairns Field.
That means the trifecta of elite sports team training camps being held in Saskatoon will be completed as the Berries follow the C-F-L’s Saskatchewan Roughriders and C-E-B-L’s Saskatchewan Rattlers in holding camp in May in Saskatoon. The Berries’ roster has 29 players listed, but not all are in town as some are still playing in U-S College playoffs. Those players that are here will be put through their paces by head coach Joe Carnahan (pictured) and his coaching staff on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening at Cairns Field before the Berries open their inaugural W-C-B-L season on Friday in Regina. Saskatoon’s first home game at Cairns Field is against the Red Sox on Tuesday, May 28. Following is Les Lazaruk’s complete pre-camp conversation with Carnahan…..
