The Saskatoon Police Service is again renewing its calls for new information regarding a historical homicide. It has been 62 years since Alexandra Wiwcharuk was last seen leaving her home in City Park before stopping at a nearby drug store and taking a walk by the river. The 23-year-old wasn’t seen again until 13 days later on May 31st when her remains were found along the riverbank near where she was last seen.
Police say her skull was fractured and she had been sexually assaulted before being buried. The official cause of death was ruled as suffocation. The investigation into this historical homicide remains open and the investigators remain in contact with Alexandra Wiwcharuk’s family.
Hundreds of people have been interviewed and over the years, new technology as well as DNA testing has been used as it became available.
Investigators believe, even after more than six decades, members of the public may have information helpful in solving the case. Anyone with relevant information to offer is asked to contact police or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
