Eleven Sask. Party MLAs are stepping away from being a Member of the Legislature and back to being private citizens. One of those individuals is Dustin Duncan who has been an MLA since he was 26 years old, 18 years ago. He says this doesn’t mean he’d never get back into politics one day but likely not at a federal level. Duncan says as he moves out of politics, he may even try his hand with coaching baseball. “I’m just looking forward to being able to spend time with our kids and letting somebody else worry about the big issues going on within the government,” he explained.
This is farewell week in the Saskatchewan Legislature with the spring sitting wrapping up on Thursday. Finance Minister Donna Harpauer, as the longest serving cabinet minister in Canada, is also stepping down. She has been MLA for Humboldt-Watrous for 25 years. Other Sask. Party MLA’s not seeking re-election include Don McMorris (Indian Head-Milestone), Gord Wyant (Saskatoon Northwest) Don Morgan (Saskatoon Southeast), Dana Skoropad (Arm River), Greg Ottenbreit (Yorkton), Ken Francis (Kindersley), Fred Bradshaw (Carrot River Valley), Delbert Kirsch (Batoche) and Gary Grewal (Regina Northeast).
And two other Sask. Party MLAs, Greg Lawrence (Moose Jaw-Wakamow) and Ryan Domotor (Cutknife-Turtleford), are now sitting as independents in the wake of facing criminal charges.
