Man arrested and in court following North Battleford serious assault

A 29-year-old man from Thunderchild First Nation was arrested and appeared in court Monday following an early Saturday morning serious assault incident in North Battleford.

Donnie Okanee was charged with one count of aggravated assault after Battlefords RCMP responded to a report of a serious assault outside of a business on 99th Street in North Battleford at about 12:40 a.m. on May 11. The investigation by the Battleford RCMP Municipal General Investigation Section, Battleford RCMP Gang Task Force, Forensic Identification Services and Police Dog Services determined there was an altercation between two men. One assaulted the other, who was transported to hospital with injuries described as serious in nature. Officers were able to locate the suspect in the vehicle that he fled the scene with and arrested him.
