WestJet has announced that a strike or lockout of its mechanics has been avoided after a tentative deal was struck Sunday.
The aircraft carrier based out of Calgary issued a 72-hour lockout notice on Saturday to the union, saying it was response to the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association announcing a strike vote.
AMFA maintains WestJet’s fleets. WestJet and AMFA issued a joint statement, announcing the agreement, but none of its terms and there is no word when a ratification vote will happen.
The union said, “After nine months of tough negotiating, we are proud to have reached a tentative agreement.”
