Each year, a Saskatoon woman known for enhancing the quality of life in the community through volunteerism is selected to receive the Silver Spoon Dinner’s Sterling Award.
This year’s winner is Chris Gordon, a fitness mentor to women, advocate for dental hygiene, spokesperson for the #BeLikeBruce Memorial Pancreatic Cancer Research, and a mom, grandma and homeschooler to grandchildren.
Gordon has been a cyclist for many years and enjoys coaching and mentoring other women in the sport. She also trains and competes in the sport of Crossfit, and when she isn’t competing, she volunteers her time at local competitions helping organize and judging.
As a hygienist she advocates for proper dental hygiene and also volunteers her time at local hospitals and long-term health care centres.
In 2017, her husband Bruce passed away from a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She vowed to make a difference and since has spoken to numerous groups of the importance of Cancer research and the research centre in Saskatoon. She has volunteered countless hours to help raise money and awareness.
The award will be presented at the Silver Spoon Dinner tonight.
