To help Saskatoon seniors access services and community events, the Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation is partnering with the Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club to host an African Heritage Night fundraiser.
Anthony Olusula, Executive Director of Alive Youth and Family Foundation, says the Black-serving charity has senior clients that come from all sides of the city, and most of them have no access to transportation of any kind. Olusula says the money raised will be split evenly between the Truly Alive Youth and Family and the Saskatoon Nutana Rotary Club. With his portion of the funds, Olusula says his organization plans to purchase a van.
“The ultimate goal is for us to get a van so that folks can then participate in the life of the community. They can attend programs here at our organization without any barriers, and they can even attend events outside of our city,” he explains. “We continue to see that a lot of seniors within the Black and other ethnic minority groups are continually alienated from participating fully in the life of the community.”
He says the fundraiser, which takes place at Bishop Leggat Hall on May 3rd at 6:00pm, will be packed with culture, music, cuisine, and entertainment from all parts of Africa, such as an Afro-Caribbean fashion show and several traditional African performances.
The Truly Alive Youth and Family Foundation offers numerous services such as human empowerment, capacity advancement, clinical counseling, women’s support, whole family support, and a healthy aging program for seniors.
