Community Service Workers who are members of SEIU-West at LutherCare Communities Group Homes have announced job action to begin May 1st. Earlier this week the union announced if there wasn’t a new offer on the table by last Wednesday at 6 p.m. some services would be withdrawn.
A news release from SEIU-West says the job action is escalating on May 1st to include the withdrawal of duties managing dirty dishes and cutlery along with the current withdrawal of transportation services.
LutherCare management has included adding the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday, which is one of the things union members asked for, but President of SEIU-West, Barbara Cape says the employer has also clawed back one per cent of the proposed general wage increase from employees to pay for it. Management staff already have the day as a holiday.
Cape says, “Until the Employer is ready to come to the table with a better proposal to conclude bargaining, the Union job action will continue”.
