The pelicans have returned to Saskatoon and were spotted on the South Saskatchewan River.

The conservation group Meewasin holds an annual contest for people to guess when the first pelican arrive. Meewasin says it has confirmed several pelican sightings over the past 24 hours.

Last year, the first pelican touched down on the river April 15^th.  Over the past 25 years, the first pelicans have returned to Saskatoon as early as April 2^nd and as late as April 21^st.
