Saskatoon firefighters responded to an apartment complex in the 31-hundred block of 33 Street West at 7:41 Sunday night after receiving a report of alarm bells ringing inside the multi residential building.
When fire crews got to the scene, they determined the fire was in the basement suite of building B of an apartment complex. The Saskatoon Fire Department says an unknown aged male suffered undetermined injuries and was taken to hospital by EMS.
The apartment complex had to be shut down last night because utilities couldn’t be restored. The Saskatoon Fire Department fire investigator reported that the property owner was temporarily rehousing all the occupants of the 26 occupied units to a hotel until the building is habitable. It is unknown at this time how many people were displaced. The Fire Investigator is expected to issue more information regarding the cause of the fire and damage estimate.
About an hour and a half after that the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a garage fire in the 100 block of Avenue L South. A firefighter suffered minor injuries trying to put the fire out which, when the first crews arrived, involved the exterior of a garage as well as overhead lines. The fire was quickly brought under control and was contained to the exterior of the garage. The Fire Investigator has determined the fire is suspicious and started along the fence between two properties which extended to two garages and a shed. Damage is estimated at $10,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact Saskatoon Police or Crime Stoppers.
