Yesterday was the sixth anniversary of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash where 16 people were killed and 13 were injured in the crash.
The next day Logan Boulet’s parents, Bernadine and Toby Boulet, offered to donate his organs, knowing he wasn’t going to recover.
He had recently registered as an organ donor and had spoken to his parents about his wishes.
That’s why today is Green Shirt Day, led by the Boulet family and the Canadian Transplant Association.
Logan Boulet saved six lives through organ donation and has saved countless others for inspiring other people to register to donate their organs.
The Canadian Transplant Association estimates almost 150,000 people registered to become donors in the days and weeks that followed the crash, and the news of his donation wishes.
That rush of registrations became known as the Logan Boulet Effect.
In honour of Green Shirt Day, a couple of suggestions from organizers are to string some green lights around your home, hang green shirts from your windows or balcony and encourage others to register or confirm that they are registered for organ donation.
