A 37-year-old man from La Ronge is facing 13 charges after officers found drugs in a vehicle that fled from – and tried to strike – them.
On March 18, RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway #2. The vehicle evaded police and continued on at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was later found parked in a driveway on Jimmy Roberts Road, and the driver was told he was under arrest. The man then drove directly toward an officer, who was on foot, at a high rate of speed. The officer had to quickly move aside to avoid being hit by the vehicle.
Officers then entered a pursuit with the vehicle, which abruptly did a u-turn and came head-on at a police vehicle, forcing it to swerve to avoid a collision.
Police were able to pin the vehicle in and bring the man into custody without further incident.
Investigation determined the man was on release order conditions issued in relation to charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose on March 11th.
While searching the man and his vehicle, officers seized 26 grams of cocaine, 1.6 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of cannabis, two pharmaceutical-style pills, a knife, trafficking paraphernalia and a sum of cash. Jade Napope has been remanded into custody until he appears in La Ronge Provincial Court on April 8.
