He was integral in the push to get a children’s hospital in Saskatchewan. He is a former head of the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s pediatrics department and he continues to advocate for health services as close to home as possible with his recent work using robotics to help families in the north and visiting their communities. That’s why Dr. Laurentiu Givelichian was named one of nine top doctors in the world from the Marquis Who’s Who list featured in the Wall Street Journal recently.
Dr. Givelichian says he was humbled and surprised by the honour. He considers it recognition for all the work that was done in the province to open the doors to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and suggests Saskatchewan’s children and their families are the real winners.
When asked what he believes his biggest achievements are, being a part of the efforts to open a children’s hospital in Saskatchewan is one of them, along with hiring 28 doctors for JPCH, therefore creating more access to pediatric services and the third is his work advocating for more access to health care in the north using robotics. Dr. Givelichian says he is now working on his pilot’s license so he can visit more northern communities and expects he will be doing his first solo flight soon. He is also Chair of the JPCH board.
