The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations extends sympathies to the communities of James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon as the inquiry into the 11 stabbing deaths that occurred on September 4th of 2022 begins. Chief Bobby Cameron says, “This is the devastation we face when dangerous, illicit drugs enter our communities, and we urge all authorities to follow the guidance of the Chiefs and Councils and their members to create safer and healthier communities for our people.” A separate inquest is being held beginning February 26th for the suspect, Myles Sanderson, who died in police custody.
