The Federal Government is issuing a recall of Askstorm 40W USB chargers from IKEA in the colour dark grey. This is due to thermal burn and electric shock hazards caused by wear and tear of the power cable.
As of January 3, the company hasn’t received any reports of injuries in Canada, however globally, there have been 17 reports where the power cable may have been damaged or broken with use, some of which included reports of thermal burns and electric shock by consumers. The company reported that the affected chargers were sold between April 2020 and December 2023, and 10,258 of them were sold in Canada.
Affected units have article number 80461200 and model number ICPSW5-40-1. The model number can be found on the label on the back of the charger.
Anyone who has purchased one of these chargers should immediately stop using it and return it to IKEA for a refund. Proof of purchase is not required.
