Officials say that a fire at a Regina scrapyard could continue to burn for days, however there is no threat to the public.
Fire crews were called to Wheat City Metals, located north of Regina, at 12:46 p.m. on Thursday. Throughout the afternoon, heavy machinery was being used to shift pieces of scrap away from the flames. A team of eight firefighters worked through Thursday night to mitigate the flames, but the fire continued to burn throughout the day Friday.
As reported by CTV, the fire was caused by a hot piece of recycled metal interacting with scrap material.
Residents are asked to stay away from the location and to avoid breathing in any of the smoke from the area.
